Adopts four PPRs in Klang Valley to foster meaningful and sustainable community impact

Kuala Lumpur: CIMB Group Holdings Berhad (“CIMB” or “the Group”) reaffirms its strong sense of purpose in advancing customers and society through the adoption initiative, Program Satu Pemimpin Satu Kampung (Santuni MADANI) (“the Programme”) across four Projek Perumahan Rakyat (“PPR”) located in Klang Valley, namely Bukit Jalil, Lembah Subang, Perumahan Awam Seri Selangor, and Seri Alam. Under the Programme, CIMB has pledged RM3.6 million over two years, to drive long-term, positive impact on the lives of approximately 9,000 PPR residents by strengthening capacity building, offering upskilling opportunities, enabling access to quality education, and fostering sustainable livelihoods.

Santuni MADANI is a Government initiative that brings together leaders from across Federal Ministries, Agencies, Departments, Statutory Bodies, Government-Linked Investment Companies (“GLICs”) and Government-Linked Companies (“GLCs”), to bridge socioeconomic gaps amongst the underserved communities.

The launch of the Programme, held at PPR Pinggiran Bukit Jalil 2, was graced by Yang Berhormat Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Minister of Finance II, Dato’ Seri TPr (Dr.) Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad, Chairman, CIMB Group, Novan Amirudin, Group Chief Executive Officer, CIMB Group, Gurdip Singh Sidhu, Chief Executive Officer, CIMB Malaysia and CIMB Bank Berhad, and Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff, Chief Executive Officer, CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad.

Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah said, “The government is steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in our journey towards a more inclusive and sustainable Malaysia. CIMB’s adoption programme exemplifies the private sector’s vital role in uplifting underserved communities and driving meaningful change under the Santuni MADANI initiative. Its efforts to address the needs of all age groups with comprehensive, tailored support are commendable and closely align with the government’s vision of building a resilient and progressive society by reducing poverty, unemployment and school dropouts.”

Novan Amirudin said, “As a purpose-driven organisation, CIMB is committed to raising the floor by improving people’s quality of life and we are pleased to expand our social finance efforts to reach more communities; helping them build resilience, focusing on economic issues such as underemployment, access to education and financial literacy. Through the Programme, we aim to promote self-sufficiency, create lasting positive impact, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities for individuals and families to elevate their economic standing.”

“Our initiatives are designed to provide the right tools, skills and resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods. By focusing on economic empowerment and financial inclusion, we enable individuals to secure a brighter and more sustainable future. These efforts create ripple effects that drive meaningful and transformative change in communities,” he added.

The Group, through CIMB Foundation, its corporate responsibility and philanthropic arm, and CIMB Islamic Bank, will introduce several initiatives under the Programme, tailored to help communities move forward, focusing on educational and economic empowerment outcomes. The Programme will address a broad range of underserved segments from the PPR including improving educational capabilities for upper-primary, secondary school, creating opportunities for high-performing university students, introducing teacher training and economic empowerment programmes focused on income-generation for single mothers, as well as elevating micro-entrepreneurs and the overall Asnaf community.

To support the participants in generating income, CIMB will offer Program Keusahawanan by CIMB Islamic, which provides training and resources for aspiring entrepreneurs; Program iTEKAD CIMB Islamic Rider Entrepreneur, which supports gig economy workers through entrepreneurial opportunities; MicroBizReady spearheaded by CIMB Foundation, equipping small businesses with essential tools and training to enhance business readiness; and Upskill Training, which focuses on developing sewing skills to enhance income-generating potential.

On the education front, CIMB through CIMB Foundation aims to improve literacy and numeracy, by increasing school completion rates, and address learning loss – in support of the Ministry of Finance-led GEAR-uP initiatives for Government-Linked Companies – by offering free tuition to students from B40 families, ensuring they receive quality education, enhancing equity and better opportunities for the future. Meanwhile, CIMB will also continue to address basic needs through initiatives such as Program Bakul Makanan, which delivers essential food items to vulnerable households and the Back-to-School Programme, which provides students with school supplies and uniforms to support their academic journey.

In line with its “Kita Bagi Jadi” movement, CIMB held a community engagement day with PPR residents providing them with the opportunity to connect with Programme partners and past successful beneficiaries. Community members also received direct assistance, including food packs and school uniforms for the new academic year. The Group remains dedicated to its role as a responsible corporate citizen and will continue to support the underserved communities and those in need through various programmes and initiatives across Malaysia.
